// tim in the tian shan

Kumys is an alcoholic drink made from fermented mare's milk.  It is a national beverage of Kyrgyzstan, a mountainous former Soviet republic located in Central Asia.

This site is devoted to my time in the Peace Corps in Kyrgyzstan from 2003 - 2005 and continues to serve as a means of staying connected to friends in country there.

If you have any questions, email me.

// what i was doing

I lived in Jalalabat, a town of about 100,000 people in southern Kyrgyzstan very close to Osh, a 3000-year-old Silk Road city, and Uzbekistan.

I worked as an NGO Development Volunteer at the Civil Society Support Center (CSSC) of Jalalabat. CSSC is part of a national network striving to build the capacity of non-governmental organizations throughout the country.
